Coleford town in the Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire has twinned with a town in the Vendee region of France called St Hilaire de Riez.
The Chair of the Coleford Twinning Association is Iain Baird. The President of the St Hilaire twinning association, called the Echanges Franco Britanniques, is Damien Guibert.
St Hilaire de Riez is shown by the red star on the map. For more information on St Hilaire de Riez
The two twinning associations are keen to involve as many members of the two communities as possible. This includes schools, youth clubs, sports clubs, music and arts groups, families and, of course, local businesses. If you want more information about the Coleford Twinning Association and the various events that are planend, then please have a look at the other pages on this website. If you would like to become a member of the association then please contact Marilyn Cox, secretary of the Coleford Twinning Association at: email@example.com or Pay Kay, chair, at firstname.lastname@example.org
Five Acres High School welcomed a visit by 50 students from their twinned college, College Garcie Ferrande, in March. The students from each school spent time talking to each other and practising their French and English conversation.
Later in the day the visitors found out more about the Forest of Dean at the Dean Heritage Centre and were also able to visit the centre of Coleford.
It is hoped that a group from Five Acres High School will be able to visit St Hilaire de Riez in the future.
A group twenty members of the Coleford Twinning Association will be travelling to St Hilaire de Riez at the beginning of August to reciprocate the visit by a coachful of our French visitors at Easter. Some members are travelling by car and others are flying to Nantes airport.
We are looking forward to meeting up with our St Hilaire friends and enjoying the three day Arts festival that will be taking place. There will also be a couple of members of the Forest of Dean Athletic Club, who will be taking part in the half-marathon that goes through the pine trees behind the beach front.
Nearly all the members will be hosted by St Hilaire families, which reduces the cost of the visit considerally, as well as helping to form firm friendships. We hope to run another such visit in 2020, so please feel free to join the Coleford Twinning Association so that you can take advantage of the low-cost visits to the beaches of the Vendee that we can offer.
